The Geological Survey publishes maps and reports on North Dakota's mineralogical, paleontological, and geochemical resources, including oil and gas, coal (lignite), uranium, clay, sand and gravel, volcanic ash, potash, and other salts. In addition to mapping subsurface resources, the Survey actively maps the surface geology throughout the state, emphasizing urban areas and identifying geohazards such as landslides.

Survey publications support the regulatory programs of the Industrial Commission and other state and federal agencies. The publications also assist mineral companies, geotechnical consulting firms, city and county governments, landowners, and the citizens of North Dakota.

Coincidence of Areas Favorable for Basal Lodgepole Buildups with the Upper Bakken Shale Extent and Mature Bakken, (1:1,000,000). Thematic map illustrates the relation between an interpretation of an area favorable for buildups in the lower Lodgepole Formation, the location of hydrocarbon tests that have been drilled through the Lodgepole and some aspects of the Mississippian and Devonian Bakken Formation. ($10).

Relation of Areas Favorable for Basal Lodgepole Buildups and the Prairie Formation, (1:1,000,000). Thematic map shows the approximate present or dissolution edge of the Prairie Salt, the estimated depositional limit of the Prairie Salt and the 100 ft. or greater thickness isopachs of the Prairie Formation relative to an area interpreted to be favorable for lower Lodgepole Formation buildups. ($10).
